In 2016, the first ever state of the environment report card was prepared for Torres Strait, using best available traditional and scientific knowledge, professional insight and stakeholder perspectives.
Whilst the region’s environment is still largely in healthy condition (11 of the 16 key values are considered to be in good or very good condition), a high level of management and protection is required to maintain and enhance the resilience of these key values in the face of significant challenges.
For each of the 16 identified key values, scores were allocated against five measures:
- condition
- significance
- threat
- trend
- confidence
A summary of the initial 2016 state of the environment report card is available here. For further information, including condition class descriptions for each key value , visit the Torres Strait e-Atlas.
