Popular Channel 7 lifestyle program; WEEKENDER will be visiting the Gab Titui Cultural Centre in September to showcase Torres Strait art, artists and the nationally acclaimed Centre.
The segment will include an interview with the TSRA Member for Mer Bob Kaigey, a tour of the Wabunaw Geth and Ephraim Bani Galleries, followed by a look at the newly refurbished gift shop.
The Culture, Art and Heritage Programme will coordinate an appearance by Torres Strait Artists and Cultural Practitioners to promote their works, traditional language and culture as part of the segment.
Tourism and Events Queensland (TEQ) have engaged Channel 7 to deliver the segment as part of promotional activities for the Queensland Year of Indigenous Tourism (YOIT). Annastacia Palaszcuk declared 2020 the Year of Indigenous Tourism, however due to the impacts of COVID-19, it was extended into 2021.
TEQ approached the TSRA to coordinate the opportunity and the Culture, Art and Heritage Programme will lead the initiative to ensure the Gab Titui Cultural Centre and the Torres Strait Region are authentically represented.
TSRA Chairperson Mr Napau Pedro Stephen AM, said “this is a fantastic opportunity to promote the rich and diverse cultural offerings, the Gab Titui Cultural Centre and our artists.”
“We welcome such media exposure, especially during the Year of Indigenous Tourism to drive more visitation and develop our region’s growing tourism industry.”
