The Torres Strait Regional Authority (TSRA) has welcomed the new Member for Ugar, Mr Rocky Stephen, during his recent induction programme into the organisation.
Following the resignation of the previous Member for Ugar, Mr Jerry Stephen, the Australian Electoral Commission declared Mr Rocky Stephen as the successful candidate to fill the vacancy on the TSRA Board.
TSRA Chairperson, Mr Napau Pedro Stephen AM, said Mr Rocky Stephen joins to the TSRA as a returning member, having previously served on the board for two consecutive terms from 2000 to 2008.
“Rocky Stephen comes with a wealth of community experience including his involvement in a number of community Boards and Committees,” Mr Stephen said.
“He currently holds the Local Government Councillor position for Ugar for the Torres Strait Island Regional Council (TSIRC), is a representative for the Protected Zone Joint Authority (PZJA), is a Traditional Inhabitant member of Kemer Kemer Meriam for the Finfish industry and a member for the Torres Strait Scientific Advisory Committee.
“I look forward to working with Rocky during the Board’s term and welcome him back to the organisation.”
Mr Napau Pedro Stephen said he would also like to take the opportunity to thank the previous TSRA Member for Ugar, Mr Jerry Stephen, for his commitment and contributions to the TSRA, his community and the Torres Strait region.
