TSRA sponsors candidate for 2018 Australian Rural Leadership Program

TSRA sponsors candidate for 2018 Australian Rural Leadership Program

The Torres Strait Regional Authority has sponsored Mr Jack Kepa to participate in the 2018 Australian Rural Leadership Program (ARLP).

He has embarked with 30 other people on the 15-month program that takes place across Australia and Indonesia, immersing participants in a series of unique experiences to develop their leadership capabilities.

Mr Kepa is from Iama Island and best known for his engagement and leadership in youth and education in the community.

The TSRA Chairperson, Mr Napau Pedro Stephen AM, said the partnership with the Australian Rural Leadership Foundation’s Program was vital for developing the next wave of community leaders in the Torres Strait.

“The selection process for the ARLP is highly competitive and candidates are chosen based on their motivation, inspiration and leadership experiences,” Mr Stephen said.

“Jack is highly regarded within his community and the wider region, and is the perfect person to participate in the ARLP.

“I congratulate him and his fellow cohorts from around the country in embarking on this journey and look forward to witnessing their leadership skills develop.”

The participants will commence their first session of the program in Darwin before travelling to the Kimberley region in WA for an outdoor experiential component of the program.

This is the tenth ARLP in which the TSRA has sponsored a scholarship.

ARLP Course 26 is now open for applications and will run from July 2019 to October 2020.  Applications are open until 30 September 2018.
