The TSRA Chairperson, Mr Napau Pedro Stephen AM, on behalf of the Torres Strait Regional Authority Board, sends his congratulations to Prime Minister Scott Morrison on his election victory at the Federal Election of 18 May 2019.

“The Board members and I look forward to working with the Prime Minister’s team to build upon the successful partnership that we enjoyed with the outgoing Minister for Indigenous Affairs, Senator the Hon Nigel Scullion,” Mr Stephen said.

Mr Stephen also paid tribute to Senator Scullion.

“Nigel Scullion was a dedicated champion for the people of the Torres Strait region with his support for developing our economy, particularly through the fishing industry,” he said.

“His commitment to the Indigenous ranger programme and major infrastructure development will be a greatly missed.

“However, I am very confident that Prime Minister Morrison will be able to appoint a successor worthy of his legacy.”

“I have personally written to Prime Minister Morrison to congratulate him on his victory and also extended the invitation for Mr Morrison and the incoming Minister for Indigenous Affairs to visit the Torres Strait region.”

“We would like to take the opportunity to share the successes of our strong partnership and for them to see firsthand the issues and challenges facing our region.”
