The Torres Strait Regional Authority (TSRA) have sponsored six young leaders to attend the Torres Strait Young Leaders Programme (TSYLP) in Canberra from 7-15 March 2017.
The selected candidates are Wallington Kris from St Pauls Community, Rottannah Passi from Mer, Jared Graham and Quynira McKeown from Horn Island, and Frank Morseu and Rosetta Morseu from Thursday Island.
The TSRA Chairperson, Mr Napau Pedro Stephen AM, said the TSYLP offers these participants the opportunity to discover hidden leadership capabilities.
“These participants have shown their ambitions to become leaders within their communities, through acting as role models for other young leaders,” Mr Stephen said.
“The TSYLP allows young leaders to gain new perspectives and experiences within politics, history and culture, and gain confidence in their leadership abilities.”
Mr Stephen said the TSYLP is a strategic partnership between the TSRA and Australian Rural Leadership Foundation (ARLF).
“The TSRA invests generously towards leadership programmes as such to ensure that graduates from these programmes are empowered to take confidence in any leadership roles in the Torres Strait,” Mr Stephen said.
“This cohort will not only become a part of the Torres Strait Leadership network but also the ARLF Network nationwide.”
Applications for the next TSYLP will be open in November 2017 for the 2018 programme.
