Torres Strait Regional Authority (TSRA) is partnering with Lugger Indigenous Financial Education (LIFE) to deliver free financial literacy workshops for Torres Strait Islanders and Aboriginal people living in the Torres Strait region.
TSRA Chairperson George Nona said the workshops offered the opportunity to learn about personal finances and basic skills to earn, save, spend and invest.
“Economic development includes creating opportunities for yumi people to access information and support to set economic goals that suit our needs, dreams and aspirations.
“TSRA is proud to deliver the workshops in partnership with local, First Nations-owned business LIFE to support economic opportunities for our people.”
LIFE Founder Corey Ward said it was a positive opportunity for communities.
“LIFE is excited to partner with TSRA to bring financial literacy workshops of this kind to the region for our people,” Mr Ward said.
TSRA Economic Development’s Nicole Assan said the workshops would be delivered in communities, for communities.
“The workshops will provide participants the opportunity for direct face-to-face interaction with Corey and TSRA’s ED Staff,” Mrs Assan said.
Light refreshments will be provided at the workshops.
This workshop will also be delivered to the outer islands at a later date.
