Torres Strait Regional Authority (TSRA) has announced that the 2026 Gab Titui Cultural Centre’s public programs calendar is underway with back-to-back weekends of culture and art activities hosted by language and culture practitioners and artists.
The March and April calendar features a mix of family-friendly events, youth workshops and school holiday activities to keep young creatives entertained and learning new techniques.
Acting Public Programs Manager Leah Warrior said the Centre was excited to welcome community, families and young people into the 2026 program.
“This year’s public programs calendar was thoughtfully curated to create safe and creative environments for all ages,” Ms Warrior said.
“Our public programs are about bringing people together through art, culture and shared experiences,” she said.
The 2026 program kicked off in February with hands-on Valentine’s cooking and weaving workshops, delivered by award-winning artist Rosaline Tomsana and Veronica Keane, followed by lino-printing workshops with internationally acclaimed artist Joey Laifoo and raffia weaving workshops with multi-faceted artist Nancy Nona.
“These workshops have set the tone for a creative and connected year ahead,” Ms Warrior said.
TSRA Chairperson George Nona said the return of public programs reflects TSRA’s ongoing commitment to strengthening culture, arts and heritage across Zenadth Kes.
“The Gab Titui Cultural Centre is a living cultural space where our stories, skills and creativity are shared across generations,” Mr Nona said.
“Through these public programs, we are investing in our people, our artists and our young people.
“We are creating spaces where culture is practised, not just preserved.
“Whether it’s crafting during the school holidays or enjoying a family movie night, we want Gab Titui to be a space where everyone feels welcome and inspired.”
The 2026 program includes family movie nights, Elder activities, Easter workshops, traditional kulap/gorr making workshops and theatre productions. Events will be promoted across the Gab Titui Cultural Centre Facebook Page, the Torres News and in community.
