The 2025 Gab Titui Indigenous Art Award (GTIAA) opened for entries from Torres Strait Islander and Aboriginal artists living in the Torres Strait and Northern Peninsula Area.
Torres Strait Regional Authority (TSRA) Chairperson Mr Napau Pedro Stephen AM was thrilled to announce the 2025 date-claimer and encourage artists to submit their best works.
“The 2025 Gab Titui Indigenous Art Award will be held on Thursday, 12 June 2025 with an awards ceremony and official opening of cultural and artistic celebrations,” Mr Stephen said.
“The Award is the biggest event on the Gab Titui Cultural Centre’s exhibition and events calendar, attracting attention from leading cultural institutions and prominent Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander curators and artists,” Mr Stephen said.
“This year, artists will vie for a share in $38,000 worth of prizes, including the coveted $10,000 first prize.”
Distinguished artist and arts worker Teho Ropeyarn has joined the 2025 GTIAA as the guest judge.
“Mr Ropeyarn has been the Curatorial Associate of the Cairns Indigenous Art Fair for the past decade, and he will bring a wealth of artistic knowledge to this year’s judging panel,” Mr Stephen said.
“As a practising artist, Teho’s career includes eight solo exhibitions, numerous group exhibitions and international showcases,”
“Mr Ropeyarn will lead a panel of cultural advisors, bringing together a breadth of knowledge to the judging process to identify works that provoke conversation, embody culture and capture hearts,”
The Gab Titui Indigenous Art Award was established as an initiative of the TSRA’s Culture, Art, and Heritage Program to provide opportunity to local artists wishing to increase their exhibition experience and exposure nationally.
Entries close Tuesday 1st April (5pm). Artworks that are received after may be excluded from the exhibition and award.
