Regional Plan Community Booklets 2012
The Integrated Service Delivery (ISD) Project, jointly implemented by the Governance and Leadership Program of the TSRA and the Queensland Department of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and Multicultural Affairs (DATSIMA), established Regional Plan Working Groups (RPWG) in 2009 comprising representatives of the three levels of government (agencies working in the Region). In 2011 the RPWG completed the mapping of all government services being delivered to Torres Strait and Northern Peninsula Area Communities. This exercise also identified gaps to be addressed.
This service delivery mapping was then compared to the list of community needs and aspirations that were collected during the 2008 consultations that produced the Torres Strait and Northern Peninsula Area Regional Plan 2009 - 2029.
The resulting product was a set of Regional Plan Community Booklets - one for each Community (and a single one for NPA) - which show:
- the needs the community expressed in 2008 and their status in 2012 (colour coded red, orange or green), thus showing progress in filling gaps in service delivery
- the services delivered or available and accessible to the community and individuals across the Region
- contact details for government departments, agencies and programs
The Community Booklets are arranged in seven chapters equating to the seven Commonwealth of Australian Governments (COAG) Building Blocks
Early Childhood Schooling Health Economic Participation Healthy Homes Safe Communities Governance and Leadership
The Booklets have a number of purposes:
To act as a directory of services that can assist community members and groups To act as a ‘baseline’ or‘snapshot’ – progress can be measured against it in future years To act as a basis for discussion and engagement with three levels of government To act as a basis for discussion between community members and motivational or rallying tool for communities.
