Grant Funding

The following links provide information on TSRA grant funding for Torres Strait Islander and Aboriginal organisations in the Torres Strait and NPA region. The grant disbursement process is called the Common Funding Round (CFR).

The information includes the grant funding cycle (there are two funding rounds per year with specific opening and closing dates for applicants), grant guidelines (TSRA Program specific), and application forms.

  • Grant recipients with current performance or financial acquittal breaches must clear those breaches prior to making any new application. Applicants with outstanding breaches are NOT eligible for further grant funding.
  • The TSRA does not provide grant funding for activities that are the primary responsibility of other government departments and/or activities that may duplicate the current service delivery of another organisation.

Native Title Programme: Prescribed Bodies Corporate (PBCs) Capacity Building Initiatives

Eligible projects under this programme include:

  • Administrative costs associated with establishing and maintaining a PBC Office
  • Initiatives that increase the capacity of elected PBC Officers to perform their duties
  • Initiatives that support PBCs to engage with communities on Native Title issues

Governance and Leadership Programme - Indigenous Broadcasting Programme

Eligible projects under this programme include:

  • Operational support for Indigenous broadcasting services (including RIBS)
  • Operational support for Regional Indigenous Media Organisation (RIMO)
  • Maintenance or replacement of broadcasting and related equipment

Healthy Communities Programme above $5,000

Eligible projects under this programme include:

  • Healthy lifestyle activities that target families, children and the elderly to;
    • increase physical activity, improve nutrition and;
    • decrease the rate of obesity, diabetes, heart disease and substance abuse
  • Projects that increase healthy food options for children and families

Safe Communities Programme above $5,000

Eligible projects under this programme include:

  • Social services initiatives such as:
    • Projects to improve school attendance
    • Indigenous women, men, children social development and support projects
    • Child and family safety projects (early and post intervention)
  • Safe and accessible community initiatives such as:
    • Safe and accessible community infrastructure
  • Projects which will assist to make communities safer

Culture Art and Heritage Programme above $5,000 up to $25,000

Eligible projects under this programme include:

  • Career development for Indigenous artists
  • Locally managed community cultural projects (festivals, exhibitions etc)
  • Revitalization and/or maintenance of endangered Torres Strait languages
  • Purchase of material and production costs to develop traditional and contemporary art forms
  • Production and marketing costs for the promotion of a non-commercial cultural or artistic events

NOTE:  The TSRA does not provide grant funding for activities that are the primary responsibility of other government departments and/or activities that may duplicate the current service delivery of another organisation.

Late applications will not be considered unless a request has been made to the relevant Programme Manager prior to the Closing Date.
