The Torres Strait Regional Authority (TSRA) is working in collaboration with Community Enterprise Queensland (CEQ) to install digital notice boards at all IBIS stores across the Torres Strait.

The notice boards will provide an additional means for all government agencies and relevant organisations to post information directly to the community via the supermarket, as a central location that people visit on regular basis.

The notice boards also provide another platform to get important emergency management information out to people across the region.

TSRA Chairperson Napau Pedro Stephen AM, said the digital notice boards are part of the TSRA’s work towards building resilient communities.

“Ensuring Torres Strait Islanders have good access to timely, local and regional information is especially important for our communities given their isolation,” Mr Stephen said.

“The TSRA and CEQ have been trialling the notice boards in the Masig and Mer IBIS stores as part of the Climate Resilient Communities Pilot project.

“The notice boards will also be available to community to use to promote local events, cultural occasions or important news” said Mr Stephen.

CEQ CEO Ian Copeland said feedback about the digital notice boards from the communities has been very positive.

“We’re pleased to be able to partner with TSRA to bring this important initiative to the region,” Mr Copeland said.

Content for the notice boards is managed remotely via an internet-based content management system and the TSRA will manage all the non-IBIS content to ensure it is coordinated and relevant.

The TSRA also plans to work with the supermarkets at Hammond, Seisia and Badu to install noticeboards in these communities.
