Community-driven initiatives to benefit from grant writing workshop

Published: 26 Aug 2019

The Torres Strait Regional Authority (TSRA) will host a two-day Grant Writing Workshop for interested community groups on Thursday Island from 29 to 30 August 2019.

Facilitated by the TSRA’s Healthy and Safe Communities Programmes, the workshop aims to help community groups and non-profit organisations to increase their understanding of the grant writing process and encourage submissions the TSRA’s bi-annual grant round.

TSRA Chairperson, Mr Napau Pedro Stephen AM, said that the grant writing workshop is timely as the TSRA Common Funding Round opens in September 2019.

“The TSRA recognises the significance of community-driven initiatives and through the Common Funding Round, provides opportunities for eligible organisations to access funding to execute and maintain such initiatives,” Mr Stephen said.

“Community groups and organisations that participate in the two-day Grant Writing Workshop will gain a better understanding of the TSRA Common Funding Round and the requirements for a successful grant submission.

“Previously, the TSRA has provided funding for community-driven initiatives in promoting community wellbeing, safeguarding culture and building capacity and we expect to see similar grant applications in the next Common Funding Round.”

Seats are limited at the Grant Writing Workshop and those interested in attending are encouraged to contact Vanessa Drotini or Rebecca Sam from the Healthy and Safe Communities Programmes on (07) 4069 0700.
