2007-2008 TSRA Budget Announced

27/06/2007

The Torres Strait Regional Authority’s (TSRA) Board has announced a budget of $51,778,000 million, dedicated towards delivering positive outcomes for the region’s people in the new financial year.

TSRA Chairperson Mr Toshie Kris, said the 2007-2008 budget will focus on strengthening economic, social and cultural development opportunities for the Torres Strait.

“TSRA is a strong advocate for the Torres Strait people and we have one planed outcome - to achieve a better quality of life and to develop an economic base for the Indigenous people of this region,” Mr Kris said.

“In order to effectively achieve this outcome, we are committed to taking a whole of government approach by working with relevant Australian and Queensland Government Departments to represent the regions needs and address key regional issues for positive progress and advancement.

“TSRA recognises that there is a requirement for continual coordination by all stakeholders to enhance program and service delivery as well as to equip our communities with the necessary skills for social and cultural development, and economic independence.

“With participation and support from all levels of government, stakeholders and our communities, together we can improve the standard of living and the quality of life experienced by the Torres Strait Islander and Aboriginal people of this region.

“I commend the TSRA Board for representing their individual community needs during the development of this budget and I thank them for their continued support over this past year.
