Opening of Gab Titui Cultural Centre

The official opening of the Gab Titui Cultural Centre - Torres Strait, took place on the evening of Friday, 16 April 2004, from 4.30 pm to 10.00 pm. 

The weekend’s festivities commenced at noon on Saturday, 17 April and concluded on Sunday, 18 April 2004.

On this historical weekend Thursday Island was abuzz with friends, family and performers who travelled from across the Torres Strait island group to be part of this memorable event. 

A carnival atmosphere was created and the celebrations were highlighted by cultural performances held on the main stage, a cultural mini market, 'artists in action' sessions, and a featured performance by Christine Anu.
